The Vasudeva (NJ/MA) and Gulfer (Montreal) tour hits Ithaca this Saturday, August 10th with CNY's might Cattle Drums headlining and Buffalo's Del Paxton (featuring members of the defunct Beach Parade, Longitude, and Fairway).  Join us for one heck of a stacked line-up of math-rock, indie, and herd-core (ha).

It's also worth noting that the fine folks in Gulfer were instrumental in helping both Cattle Drums and Ithaca's Mouth To Mouth To Mouth with their recent Canadian dates, so let's show 'em some Ithaca love!

Over the last several years, Ithaca Underground has become one of the cornerstones of Ithaca's music community by booking and promoting creative and ambitious music events, integral work with local and regional bands, DIY ethics, and emphasis on all ages shows.

Now, the next chapter in the IU story is being written as the organization applies to become a 501c3 non-profit in an attempt to create a sustainable, on-going presence in the community.

To usher in this next era, Ithaca Underground, McNeil Music of Ithaca, Angry Mom Records, and The Haunt present a genre-diverse line-up on Saturday, February 4th at 5PM. This first-ever Ithaca Underground Fundraiser will help finance the 501c3 non-profit application process of this important next step.

Headlining are The Gunpoets, one of Ithaca's premier live acts, who have earned their elder status through years of high-energy, new school hip-hop shows. Powerful, positive, peaceful and at times political, The Gunpoets seamlessly fuse hip-hop with pop, rock, soul and funk to bring the world their own unique flavor. Heavy bass, hard hitting drums, silky smooth keys and sexy guitar licks slam with the MC skills of Rising Sun and Jayhigh. Throw in DJ Double A's slick turntable work and you've got an unstoppable, head-nodding force.

Cattle Drums from Oneonta, NY are a melodic and technically proficient blend of post-punk and emotional hardcore, hints of math-rock and Americana, and the surreal lyrics of vocalist (and former Monster Machismo drummer) Sam Judd.

Rejouissance were born in Syracuase, NY, with primary songwriter and guitarist/vocalist Jim Heffernan now residing in Brooklyn. The project has evolved from its members' post-hardcore and acoustic roots into a full fledged three-guitar driven rock-ensemble and riff factory.

Ithaca-based BRIAN! create compositions stemming from the worlds of avant-garde and prog-rock. Founded by Devid Resig on amplified bassoon and Ithaca Underground's own Bubba Crumrine on guitar, bass, electronics and voice; the group will debut its new trio line-up with Willie B (Neko Case, Johnny Dowd) behind the kit.

Banjo-punk troubadour Rye n' Clover and grindcore duo Hiroshima Vacation will kick things off in traditional IU fashion.

They day we've all been waiting for this fall is nearly upon us... Melt-Banana's return to Ithaca!  Japanese noise-punk-pop-wtf quartet sync up with California math-pop cult-favs Tera Melos (who have been on tour with Boris/Coliseum until today) in Cleveland on Saturday then its time to show the world how Ithaca gets down. Oneonta's own Cattle Drums will kick the show off around 7:30. You may remember them from Big Day In, Dec 2010 or from their summer tour with Dan Drake... you may also recognize their vocalist as non other than Moster Machismo drum wizard Sam Judd. Holla.

Formed: Fall 2010. About a year and a half ago Corey, Peter, and Gabe first discussed starting another band together because initially they were all in Makeshift together. More and more bands were formed but the idea kept lingering between the three of them. Corey mentioned the idea to Bubba around the time he was contemplating starting up a band more akin to his first Ithaca project, Bazaar of Guillemots, after playing some of the material for friends Sleep For The Nightlife. Corey and Gabe started writing what became "Open Hand, Insert Mouth" in August of this year while Peter was in Poland. The three who were in Ithaca started jamming while Peter started learning the material via Skype. We played a secret show in November and people said we were smokin'.

Releases: Nothing! We're on the face and the my though. Three tracks on each but they're different.

Sounds like: Mathpunk... a bit of an oxymoron?
Feels like: You're a spool of thread tied to an antennae of a car heading a high speed chase, rapidly unraveling.
Tastes like: Kiss your Mom and your Dad at the same time.
Smells like: Teen spirit! Wait.. that's taken. Naked men. Maybe we should have used that for sounds like.

Band Name:
Yeah…well, we’re cattle drums. But if that doesn’t suite your liking I don’t see any problem you fiddling with it. I don’t know much about London but I hear in the east end there’s some form of colloquial speech… cockney rhyming slang…here you take a word, “cattle” in this case, then another that rhymes, “saddle” for instance, and then shorten the derivative word…so here you’re left with “sad.” This word replaces the initial word completely. So, no more cattle drums…just sad. I don’t think I like this anymore. Well, anyways, cattle drums, no association with kettle drums…but, if it comes to pass that cattle drums is drafted into war and thrown into their own battalion, you can bet your ass we will use kettle drums and forty pound sheep head mallets as a means of threatening strategy, and that we will all die.

Location:
If cattle drums were a dog, we’d be pure bred mutt...as well as blind, tumor ridden, back legs replaced by wheels. We all connected at SUNY Oneonta. Upstate NY in general is home to all of us but Pat Moore. He claims Long Island his birthplace and current place of residence but…we all know he’s from outer space and makes frequent trips there.

Formed:
We formed sometime last year…fall ’09. It was cold and smog blocked out the sun. I had never sung a word…stuttered a note…still haven’t really as far as I’m concerned. The dudes had a few songs and needed someone to do vocals and I worked as a dish washer at the time and thought it was something I could get into if I just kept the mic real low and found someone else to do the recordings. We’re still together for the most part…like…a geo missing its bumpers with dirty oil…it still drives…maybe a little rough…its visit to the crushers..the bone yard…it’s not all that far away, and if it gets into an accident it’s going to blow up. But we’ve still got gas in the tank so we’re not going to stop until that runs out.

Members:
Darin on bass, Pat Moore on guitar, Gulab…also known as Jarusha, Jarad Needham did the drumming on The Boykisser Sessions EP and our two song demo we have yet to put out.. co-founder of collapsed records, and is ultimately cattle drums himself. He moved to Brooklyn upon graduating and now….now cattle drums is kind of like a grilled cheese without buttering the bread first…so now you just got toasted...probably burnt bread with melted cheese in it. What a shitty sandwich. Barely worth eating… I mean if you’re starving…on the verge of keeling over… it’ll do the trick but…damn. Well, Jarad is missed terribly but we had the beautiful Sean Scully (listen to his band classic tribe!) fill the void for a while. He’s a great sport, nasty drummer, all around good dude, but now he’s got an internship to look after and we have landed Matt Hambone Payton who will help pick up the back, boost morale, be the nicest guy you’ll ever meet, and since our anatomy…well speaking for myself, maybe darin… is closest to dogs, Payton, being a vet’s assistant, can fix our broken bones.

Releases:
So far just The Boykisser Sessions, recorded at dickbutt studios. CHECK THEM OUT if you want your music to sound like paradise. We’d be lost without them. Mike Natoli and Jon FatMan Hernandez of Timeshares, who rule the earth (please listen to this band unless you’re an enemy of our country) run this studio and make magic happen. We will be releasing a two song demo in a couple weeks or so. Full length out in spring we’re hoping. Stay tuned for good and miserable things. PIG OUT.
