Head on down to Just Be Cause at 1013 W. State St. in Ithaca tonight, Tuesday, August 27th for a night of creative and dynamic hip-hop and Ithaca Underground's final summer show.

Milo (on Hellfire Club, based out of Wisconsin these days) headlines, wielding his latest, a double EP “Things That Happened That Day / Things That Happened That Night”, a beautiful work of progressive hip-hop embracing obtuse, first-person lyrics (see poetry) and spacious, atmospheric beats. A slight departure, but natural progression from his quick-lipped “Milo takes Baths” work from 2012. Milo’s catalogue is personal, academic, glitchy, atmospheric, melodic and full of soul, jazz, indie, and DIY ethics. An answer for anyone who has ever questioned 21st century hip-hop.

TTHTD/TTHTN producer, Riley Lake will bring his own solo, beat-instrumental tunes to the table. Check out his SounCloud here.

Sammus continues to rise, hitting Bandcamp's #1 spot for hip-hop back in July when it initially dropped. If you live in Ithaca and haven't checked her out... do yourself a favor an do so immediately.

Sapience is Ithaca's latest hip-hop edition, spitting fresh, socially conscious rhymes. He'll be joined with a live band with Chris Ploss on the 16s and guitar, Gabe Millman on drums, Ben Mann on Bass, and Aaron Turkle on keys.

See you all at Just Be Cause tonight - 8PM // $5 // ALL AGES

It's that time of year again for Bubba's birthday show. This year is packed with three stellar acts from the road - Toronto's instrumental math-rock heroes, The Bulletproof Tiger return for the second year in a row, Buffalo's two-piece math-rock wizards, All of them Witches are back for just their second Ithaca appearance ever, and our Albany brothers in Grady Stiles (intense, emotional, complex hardcore?)... plus Mouth To Mouth To Mouth make a special appearance with Gulab of Cattle Drums on guitar. Time to get wild down at Just Be Cause (1013 W. State St., Ithaca, NY 14850 | 8PM | $5).

Ithaca Underground is proud to present Diamond Terrifier and Patrick Higgins on July 18th at The Space (700 W Buffalo St, Ithaca, NY).

Diamond Terrifier is Sam Hillmer of ZS - his saxophone and electronics solo project, to be precise. Named after the English translation of the Indo-Tibetan god-name Vajrabairahva, Diamond Terrifier is concerned with the potential positive qualities of destruction as mediated by noise/drone sheets of sound music.  Check out some footage of this performance in Philly earlier this spring and last year in NYC:

THESE MACHINES return to Ithaca for their official CD release of "Pharmakon" and to kick of the IU 2012 year!  These Binghamton pals have created some seriously menacing tech-metal with influences all over the grind, death, and hardcore spectrum while creating a hell of a lot of noise for just a trio.  Dual vocal attack from guitarist Tom Doud (also of Sepsis, Dirty Slits, formerly Cancerface) and bassist Paul Ghilardi who get their shred on without any hint of wankness and rounded out with sick kit work via Mike Emm.  Check out footage below from their gig at CSMA with Hiroshima Vacation, et al. from the fall.

Also on the bill are Rochester’s BURN EVERYTHING who, we’ve been itching to play Ithaca as far back as ’09 if memory serves.  This band is crafting some eye-opening, relentlessly scathing melding of metal in hardcore that's all twisted and mangled.  Recently, BE have been getting some national attention from a variety of online hotspots including Metal Sucks:

" Progressive post-hardcore? Dillinger / Burnt By the Sun-esque mathcore? Some other ultimately meaningless label? Beats me… how about just “good”? Burn Everything even introduce elements like elephants marching riffs, Morbid Angel pick scrapes and relentless double-bass pounding you don’t normally hear from bands that fall on the more hardcore side of the spectrum. A true melding of hardcore and metal that isn’t — gasp — “metalcore.” These guys get my vote for sure."

Local metallic hardcore quintet Among Dead Men will kick things off.

Come by The Space @ GreenStar, 700 W Buffalo, Ithaca, NY 14850 on Friday, Jan 13th at 8PM and check it out. Just $5.

MOTHGUTS
Get read for Jersey jazz-metal quartet MOTHGUTS, this Saturday at The Space. More info on them below but first let's check out some video of this goodness...

Awesome. Want more? Well, it just so happens you can download Mothguts entire discography right here (3/4 down the page).

So far, the quartet have released three proper studio albums, a live album, a Christmas album, and an improv album. All of which are fully fueled with blistering, Satanic-fit-inducing metallic riffage, sax shronk and skree, a la Painkiller/Naked City/Last Exit but very much their own beast.

The Invisible Hand
We've got another damn good reason for you to show up - your first shot at picking up the latest album from Ithaca's own jazz-noise-punks, The Invisible Hand entitled "A Zen Philosophy" plus the release of guitarist/bassist Mark's own solo EP "The Rapture". Two spankin' new releases at one show. Need something to do in the meantime? How about this official music video from the TIH camp for the track "Fukushima". Come down to the space for more of Mark's video animation during their live set.

Don't Go Into The Woods
Closing out this three band evening is Ithaca's own black metal three piece. Don't Go Into The Woods. Check out some footage from their last IU gig at The Haunt. Who knew psych/folk singer/songwriter Mike (A)! had the blackmetal pipes!

Cobra Skulls, now on Fat Wreck Chords, return to Ithaca for the first time since the '09 Red Scare tour (Menzingers, Sidekicks) and we are STOKED. Once of the nicest bands we've had through and always a blast live. Nice to see the good ones getting the attention. They've been busy since we last saw them signing to Fat and dropping their "Bring The War Home" EP and just released their 3rd LP "Agitations. Never heard of them? Well... check 'em out and learn about your new favorite punk band.

And let's not forget their former Red Scare labelmates Nothington (featuring ex-Tsunami Bomb members Jay Northington and Gabriel Lindeman) on on tour with CS all the way from San Fran. We've got some footage below to wet your pallet. See you this Saturday!

Cobra Skulls, Nothington, Bombtree, The Dirty Slits at The Haunt, 702 Willow Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850.  Just $8 at the door (or pre-sale here with no surcharge), this all ages show kicks off at 6PM (doors at 5PM) and runs til ~10PM. Off-street parking is available as are meals via Razorback BBQ, located inside The Haunt.
