Ithaca Underground applies for 501c3 non-profit status, fundraiser show this Saturday!
0 comments Posted by Bubba Crumrine at 12:56 PMOfficial Press release:
Ithaca Underground presents an all ages concert with The Gunpoets, Cattle Drums, Rejouissance, BRIAN!, Rye n' Clover, and Hiroshima Vacation
The Haunt, 702 Willow Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850
Saturday, February 4th from 5PM - 10PM
Sliding scale cover of $5-$25 to raise funds for Ithaca Underground's 501c3 non-profit application.
______________
Over the last several years, Ithaca Underground has become one of the cornerstones of Ithaca's music community by booking and promoting creative and ambitious music events, integral work with local and regional bands, DIY ethics, and emphasis on all ages shows.
Now, the next chapter in the IU story is being written as the organization applies to become a 501c3 non-profit in an attempt to create a sustainable, on-going presence in the community.
To usher in this next era, Ithaca Underground, McNeil Music of Ithaca, Angry Mom Records, and The Haunt present a genre-diverse line-up on Saturday, February 4th at 5PM. This first-ever Ithaca Underground Fundraiser will help finance the 501c3 non-profit application process of this important next step.
Headlining are The Gunpoets, one of Ithaca's premier live acts, who have earned their elder status through years of high-energy, new school hip-hop shows. Powerful, positive, peaceful and at times political, The Gunpoets seamlessly fuse hip-hop with pop, rock, soul and funk to bring the world their own unique flavor. Heavy bass, hard hitting drums, silky smooth keys and sexy guitar licks slam with the MC skills of Rising Sun and Jayhigh. Throw in DJ Double A's slick turntable work and you've got an unstoppable, head-nodding force.
Cattle Drums from Oneonta, NY are a melodic and technically proficient blend of post-punk and emotional hardcore, hints of math-rock and Americana, and the surreal lyrics of vocalist (and former Monster Machismo drummer) Sam Judd.
Rejouissance were born in Syracuase, NY, with primary songwriter and guitarist/vocalist Jim Heffernan now residing in Brooklyn. The project has evolved from its members' post-hardcore and acoustic roots into a full fledged three-guitar driven rock-ensemble and riff factory.
Ithaca-based BRIAN! create compositions stemming from the worlds of avant-garde and prog-rock. Founded by Devid Resig on amplified bassoon and Ithaca Underground's own Bubba Crumrine on guitar, bass, electronics and voice; the group will debut its new trio line-up with Willie B (Neko Case, Johnny Dowd) behind the kit.
Banjo-punk troubadour Rye n' Clover and grindcore duo Hiroshima Vacation will kick things off in traditional IU fashion.

Over the last 2.5 years, we've been communicating with the supporters of IU through an eNewsletter which required a user sign-up. Recently, we've started posting these on ithacaunderground.com and Facebook as well. It dawned on us that maybe we should be posting here as well. These updates on FREE! may continue or they may not so, feel free to give us your feedback! We know there are still people in Ithaca and the surrounding areas who do not know we exist so hopefully this additional medium will help others get involved and help spread the word on the artists we love and support.
Greetings from the underground,
Thanks to everyone who came out to the annex Sunday night for the show! Great sets from Womyn Boiz, Inerds, Coworkers, and Pharaohs – looking forward to seeing Inerds’ dual female fronted powerviolence at Big Day In! We’ll have WB and Coworkers back soon too. If you’re looking to catch Pharaohs, they’re playing a benefit at CSMA on Apr 9. They’ll split after spring graduation!

Location: Lansing, NY
Formed: June 2010
Members:
Parker Callister - yells and strums
Conor Stanhope - hits stuff (and plays keyboard...)
Where is your music available: You can check us out at myspace.com/kabooshmakesnoise and reverbnation.com/kaboosh. In the near future, we are probably going to release some self-produced/recorded EP/demo thing that we'll just hand out at shows.
Band History: We basically formed to make music that we hadn't made yet while the actual formation of the band was kinda accidental. It was one of those things where I wrote a song and asked Conor if he wanted to record it with me and play on it. And then BOOM! Kaboosh!
Sounds Like: Folky, poppy, sometimes melancholy music that's fun to play.
Upcoming Shows: January 15th, starting at 8pm, we will be playing a show at Waffle Frolic in downtown Ithaca with Mike (A)!, Rye 'N' Clover and Fight A Scary Dog and of course January 27th, also starting at 8pm, we will be playing a show at the Greenstar Annex with DAADs, Underground River, and Attic Abasement.
School Of Rock: In Ithaca, Nick Bullock, from Revision fame, has a program called the School Of Rock. This is where a bunch of teenagers are put into bands at Nick's house and each band has a different category of their choice. At the end of the last session, Nick asked us if we would like to have a slot at the closing performance. The bands that played were all put together within a matter of about two months and it really astounded me as to how many people out there need to get in a real band due to the sheer talent i saw on the stage from all that participated.
Ithaca Underground: We in Kaboosh! feel that the idea behind our band is to play music with and for some of the coolest people on the planet while having fun doing it. And with IU, this is possible! So, hats off to the Ithaca Underground, Bubba Crumrine, awesome bands that take the time to play here, regular concert goers, venue owners, and anyone that has helped in any way to support one of the best things in underground music!
(pic coming soon!)
